Armed robberies in Karachi have always been a serious challenge for the authorities concerned. To read about a man being robbed, especially at an ATM, is not rare. It is, however, unfortunate that the authorities concerned never talk about the seriousness of the crime. Victims do not resist in front of armed robbers out of fear that they will be shot at. On the other hand, criminals roam the streets fearlessly. They rob people of their precious belongings at gun point and flee the crime scene within seconds, leaving no trail behind for the law-enforcement agencies to apprehend them.
People are afraid to carry cash or smartphones with them. The authorities concerned should realise that residents are living in a fearful environment. The trauma of having a gun being pointed at a person remains with him/her for a long time. People do not feel safe in their own safety. The higher authorities must take concrete steps to counter the problem.
