Sindh Games rescheduled, now from April 18
KARACHI: As was expected, the 17th Sindh Games have been rescheduled due to the Pakistan Super League final and the Pakistan-West Indies Twenty20 Series in the city.
A highly reliable source told ‘The News’ on Thursday that the Games would now be held from April 18 to 21 at Karachi. The Games had been originally scheduled from March 28-31.The source said that school examinations were another reason behind the rescheduling of the competitions.
As the opening and closing ceremonies had been scheduled at the PSB Coaching Centre which is located opposite the National Stadium which will host the cricket events, it was not possible to conduct the provincial event in the same time-frame.
The Sindh government is set to make thick security arrangements for the PSL final and the Pakistan-West Indies three-match T20 series. The PSL final will be held on March 25 and the matches between Pakistan and West Indies on April 1, 2 and 4.
The revised dates also clash with the National Games which will be held in Quetta from April 21-29. However, sources said that Sindh might request the Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) to start the National Games two or three days late so that Sindh Games could be organised.
Meanwhile a 300-member Sindh contingent on Thursday left for Peshawar to feature in the fourth edition of the Inter-Provincial Games slated to be held from March 18-20.In the three-day extravaganza, around 1600 players and officials will be participating. The men will compete in 28 and women in 10.
The services of Army and Police have been taken for security. A sum of Rs40 million will be spent on the competitions in which besides the four provinces athletes from Islamabad, Gilgit-Baltistan, Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) and Azad Jammu and Kashmir will be showcasing their talent.
