PESHAWAR: The district police officer, Kohat, has said that the main accused in Asma Rani murder case kept changing his hideouts in United Arab Emirates (UAE) but the local police were in constant contact with the Interpol to ensure his arrest.

“The KP Police was constantly in touch with Interpol, FIA and UAE and Saudi Arabian authorities for the arrest of Mujahid Afridi despite he kept changing his hideouts,” Kohat District Police Officer Abbas Majeed Marwat told reporters at the Malik Saad Shaheed Police Lines in Peshawar.

DSP Raza Mohammad was also present on the occasion. The official said that the FIR in the case was lodged on January 27 and one accused had already been arrested. The DPO said that there was no political pressure on police in the case during 42 days.

The alleged killer of the student, Mujahidullah Afridi, was arrested by the UAE authorities on Thursday. After the due process, Afridi was transported via Pakistan International Airline’s flight No PK-0212 that brought him to Islamabad.

Asma Rani, a young medical college student, was shot dead in Kohat in the last week of January. The alleged killer of the girl managed to escape abroad immediately after the incident. The girl had told police in her statement before death that she was shot by Mujahid Afridi. The video in which she named her killer went viral on the social media, mounting pressure on police for the arrest of the culprit.
