PHC Abbottabad Bench lifts ban on auto rickshaws in Haripur
ABBOTTABAD: The Peshawar High Court (PHC), Abbottabad Bench, on Wednesday ordered to lift 15-day ban on auto rickshaw in Haripur district.
The two-member bench, comprising Justice Lal Jan Khattak and Justice Syed Arshad Shah gave the verdict on a writ petition.
The petition had been filed by Auto rickshaw Drivers Association against the ban on entry of automobiles into the Haripur district for 15-day for every month. The bench overturned the ban by the district administration.
During the hearing, the defence lawyer Jawad Habib Naqshbandi told the PHC that the district administration had ordered entry of auto rickshaws on 15-day turn basis and banned half of the auto rickshaws from entering the district for 15-day of every month under a new traffic plan.
He said that four months back, the district administration Haripur implemented new traffic system in the district to regularise the traffic in the city by introducing turn system for auto rickshaws.
The decision of the district administration was challenged by owners and drivers of Auto rickshaws Association in the PHC Abbottabad Bench as they claimed that driving is the only source of income for them and 15days ban could possibly destroy them financially.
