Karachi The city commissioner has assured the ‘I am Karachi’ consortium of maximum support in implementation of their projects, all of which are geared towards improving and projecting a softer image of the city. In a meeting with the team on Thursday, Shoaib Siddiqui directed the South District’s deputy commissioner to fully support the consortium in organising ‘I am Karachi Day’ on April 12 at the Bagh-e-Jinnah. Additional Commissioner Karachi-I Haji Ahmed and other deputy commissioners were also present at the meeting. The commissioner said that local administration was in close coordination with the civil society and had initiated various improvement projects with the support of non-governmental organisations and private sector firms working to better the city as part of corporate-social responsibility endeavours. He appreciated the idea they have conceived to create awareness of a sense of citizenship and belonging to motivate citizens to own their city. Siddiqui was delighted by the offer the team had made to work with the local administration in carrying out different projects to make the city cleaner and resolve issues pertaining to civic facilities. A letter of intent was also signed on the occasion by the commissioner and Jamil Yousuf, a member of the consortium. The letter declared that ‘I am Karachi’ was committed to extend its full support and cooperation to the government and would join in efforts for a peaceful Karachi through promoting socio-cultural activities. Industrialist Zaid Bashir also offered a centralised complaint management system or a hotline to the commissioner office to facilitate residents.
