System to check attendance of students

Lahore: The Punjab Information Technology Board’s (PITB) School Information System (SIS) has enrolled some 11.4 million students. It was informed during a meeting presided by PITB Chairman Dr Umar Saif.

Dr Umar said the enrollment system would be beneficial to make a report of attendance of students and teachers of each school on computer tablets in real time. It would help to monitor the educational activities in the schools, he said. Every student was tracked through SIS which would be helpful for the parents as well as their guardians to get informed about progress of the student, he added.

The meeting was informed out of 48,153 schools 48,105 schools were utilising SIS while 352,060 teachers had been registered in Punjab. A number of schools had been equipped with tablets and support staff of schools in Punjab was registered. The web-based online system resulted into an automated solution to improve educational progress in Punjab.

sciences: Punjab University (PU) Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Zakria Zakar has said the real purpose of all sciences is to protect life and ‘we must promote such knowledge that can contribute to improvement of living standards.’

He said this while addressing the inaugural session of 38th Pakistan Congress of Zoology organised by PU Department of Zoology here on Tuesday. Dean Faculty of Life Sciences Prof Dr Naeem Khan, Chairman Department of Zoology Prof Dr Javed Iqbal Qazi, other officials and delegates from Turkey, China, Germany, Egypt and various parts of the country, faculty members and a large number of students were present on the occasion.

Dr Zakria Zakar said sciences were meant for preserving life but unfortunately, ‘we were facing threat to life within the scientific developments as our environment and ecology were being damaged badly.’ He said: “We must create awareness about scientific developments that are only meant for business gains. We must sensitise the researchers that the interest of humanity and development of common people must be our priority.” He said such conferences were also helpful in cultural understandings of different regions and promote academic environment. He urged the scientists to make useful recommendations in their field so that they could be forwarded to relevant stakeholders for implementation.

Dr Naeem Khan said PU was celebrating the 50th golden jubilee of Zoological Society of Pakistan (ZSP), which was established in 1968. He said ZSP has been regularly publishing impact factor, Pakistan Journal of Zoology (PJZ), for the last 5 decades. He said Pakistan Congress of Zoology was regularly organised annually throughout Pakistan on rotation basis for the last four decades. Prof Dr Javed Iqbal Qazi said the conference had provided an opportunity to interact with renowned scholars from different regions and share ideas and experiences. He said the department was committed to providing more opportunities to the young scholars for enhancing their exposure towards modern scientific developments in the field. Seminar: A research seminar was organised at Fatima Jinnah Medical University (FJMU) on Tuesday.

Professors delivered lectures to the students of FJMU on article writing, proposal writing, synopsis writing and biostatistics at the seminar, aimed at creating awarenesse and training the medical students to adopt research in their educational process. According to a press release issued here, FJMC Vice-Chancellor Prof Khalid Masood Gondal told the students that research was necessary to become a good doctor.
