Shabbir takes leads in RMI golf

PESHAWAR: International golfer Muhammad Shabbir dominated the first day as the 3rd RMI Open Golf Championship got underway here Friday at the PAF Golf Course.

Shabbir shot six under 66 over 18 holes in the professionals round of the championship. He carded three under 33 each at front and back 9 with birdies at hole no 2, 3, 8, 9, 12, 15.Another international golfer Muhammad Munir carded five under 67 with five under 31 at front nine and 36 with back nine. Munir sunk the ball at hole no. 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 9 and 17.

“The golf course is in excellent condition and the newly developed greens are of international standard,” Munir added.Muhammad Naeem, a professional of PAF Golf Club who was also a member of the Pakistan team, carded four under 68 with two under 34 each at front and back nine.

Earlier, Officer Commanding Northern Air Command AVM Sarfraz Khan formally inaugurated the Championship by hitting a tee-Shot.The championship is an annual feature carrying a record Rs2.4 million cash prize with different categories including professional over 9 and below, senior pro, junior pro, amateur HCP 12 below, ladies, boys’ Under-15 and Under-17, veterans and senior amateurs.
