Surgeries suspended in 14 theatres

LAHORE: Punjab Healthcare Commission (PHC) has suspended surgeries in 14 operation theatres (OTs) of 12 hospitals, and issued show-cause notices to 30 healthcare establishments for not implementing the Minimum Service Delivery Standards.

According to a press release issued here on Friday, the PHC teams visited 32 hospitals of 12 districts of the province, and carried out inspections of the public and private sector hospitals. The PHC issued show-cause notices to 15 hospitals for not implementing standardised measures for the disposal of hospital waste. The PHC suspended surgeries at one each operation theatre of 10 hospitals and two each of two hospitals till the administrations concerned did not ensure implementation of the standardised measures. They were also directed to submit laboratory reports and written replies to the PHC.

Since January 2018, the PHC has inspected 404 healthcare establishments, suspended surgeries in 281 OTs and served show-cause notices on 360 hospitals for not implementing the Minimum Service Delivery Standards (MSDS) and violating the PHC Act 2010, and imposed more than Rs2 million fine.

UVAS: The Department of Theriogenology of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) in collaboration with Society for Animal Reproduction of Pakistan (SARP) Friday arranged concluding ceremony of five-day training workshop on “Reproductive Ultrasonography in Five Species of Domestic Animals”.

Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Talat Naseer Pasha chaired the concluding session and gave away certificates to the participants. UVAS Pro Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Masood Rabbani, Emeritus Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad, Prof Dr Mian Abdul Sattar, Dr Zubair Bari, 32 veterinary officers and veterinary professional trainers from public and private organisations from all over Pakistan were also present.

Prof Dr Talat lauded the organisers on arranging an informative workshop which was not only necessary for the development of livestock sector but also for the uplift of the national economy. He hoped that in future the SARP would arrange such mega event on reproduction in Buffalo Research Institute (BRI) at Pattoki as well.

Prof Dr Nasim said such training programmes were necessary for knowledge sharing, skills development and it brought competency in professionals work. The objective of the workshop was to equip the participants with required knowledge and skills to diagnose reproductive issues and to improve farm fertility through ultrasonography.
