BARA: The residents of Khyber Agency on Thursday asked the government to launch a survey of the remaining destroyed houses in the plain areas of Bara and Tirah valley to compensate the affectees forthwith.

Talking to reporters, Muhammad Aslam, Khyalmat Shah Afridi and others said that many houses were reduced to ashes when the banned outfits Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and Lashkar-i-Islam (LI) set them on fire in 2013.

They said the damage and destruction caused to their abodes had not been assessed during the previous survey.

The affected tribespeople suggested that the survey team should be divided into two to assess the damages of destroyed houses of many tribes, including Malikdinkhel, Sipah, Akakhel, Bar Qambarkhel and Shalobar Qambarkhel, which were left during the previous survey.

“The previous survey team assessed the damages of only influential people in Maidan area of Tirah valley and left the destroyed houses of the poor, who are still yearning for compensation,” Muhammad Aslam alleged.

He said the officials of the Fata Disaster Management Authority (FDMA), Political Agent and Sector Commander should take action against the survey team for delaying the drive.

He added that the survey of over 100 houses had not been conducted in the plain area of Bara, including Zangal Killay, Masrikhelo Mela, Chargai Dagarey, Nawya Kamar, Karawal, Nala and others in Malikdinkhel tribe.

“Our families have been living in tents for five years when the IDPs returned to Tirah valley in Bar Qambarkhel as the survey team did not visit the area,” another affectee Ali Akhar Afridi said.

He said that the militants had destroyed their houses, hujras and business centres.

He said that he had sent applications to a number of officials to ask them to conduct survey of their destroyed houses, but all his requests fell on deaf ears.

The affectee appealed to the government to increase the compensation money to Rs1 million as they were not able to construct even a single wall for Rs0.4 million.
