PESHAWAR: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has initiated awareness campaigns and simulation drills in educational institutions in 14 districts of the province in an attempt to train and sensitise students and teachers in dealing with natural disasters, terrorist attacks, fire breakouts and providing first-aid in emergency situations.
According to an official statement, the first phase of the exercise will be carried out in more than 100 schools till June this year, whereas the second phase will be initiated after the summer vacations.
So far, the trainings have been completed in three educational institutions of Peshawar, including GHSS Shaheed Osama Zafar, GHS Jogiwara and Government College Peshawar. Students and teachers are being trained in adopting safety standards during emergency situations and calamities, it added. Deputy Director Shakeel PDMA said the initiative has been taken to raise awareness and train students and teachers in handling emergency situations.
