Moot on democratic rights and state responsibilities

LAHORE : Pak-US alumni network in collaboration with an NGO and Lahore High Court Bar Association jointly held a national conference on topic “Citizens Democratic Rights & State Responsibilities” on world day of social justice on Tuesday at the Lahore High Court conference hall.

The main purpose of the conference and celebration of this international day was to endorse universal declaration of human rights and educating the local masses about their fundamental rights provided and guaranteed by Constitution.

Civil society activists, students, lawyers, minority’s leaders and others attended the event. Addressing the conference, human rights activist and NGO’s CEO advocate Makhdoom Waseem Qureshi said being responsible citizen of the society let’s promise on this day to promote and protect democratic rights of all human beings for eradication of injustice, corruption, unemployment & poverty by creating future voices.

Former Prosecutor General NAB Waqas Qadeer Dar said under article one of universal declaration of human rights, all human beings are born free and equal in human rights, they are endowed with the reasons and consciences and should act together in a spirit of brotherhood.

Deen of Lahore church Shahid Miraj said promotion of peace through dialogue and exchange of idea is need of time, because tolerant society is the only factor of change anywhere in the world.

At the end of the conference, an interactive session with the students was also held in which experts responded the participants by advising to play their active role for country growth, being young leaders of Pakistan.

Representatives from American consulate, Lahore Jamal Ghazanfer also participated in the event as guest and distributed the shields, certificates and souvenirs among the speakers and participants.
