The majority of the people in Pakistan do not favour democracy mainly because they think our politicians do little to improve the standard of living of ordinary people. However, history bears witness to the fact that whenever democracy is allowed to flourish in Pakistan, it has resulted in favourable results. In its recent term, the PML-N-led government has had commendable achievements. The country has seen a better law and order situation after the launch of Operation Zarb-e-Azab and the National Action Plan. The inauguration of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor and the return of international cricket have endorsed the fact that Pakistan is walking towards progress.
However, there are some shortcomings, including energy crisis, corruption and nepotism, lack of transparency in infrastructure projects, and lack of political reconciliation which have paved the way for regular sit-ins and agitations. Democracy is the only viable option through which Pakistan can gain prosperity. Every process must be given adequate time to flourish and to produce positive results. The year 2018 is the election year and once again opportunity is provided to the people to elect their rulers. It is hoped that democracy will flourish in the country and lead it to the path of success.
