The Traffic Police imposed fines on some 28,500 mini-coaches and seized the route permits of another 21 coaches, which had PE number plates but were playing on routes of minibuses.
The action was taken on a complaint by a citizen regarding violations of route permits by coaches, which had number plates of PE but they were operating on routes of minibuses, said DIG Traffic Imran Yaqoob Minhas on Monday.
Fines were imposed on a total of 2,500 coaches in District South, 1,500 in District East, 13,000 in District Central, 7,000 in District West and 4,500 in District Korangi for violating route permits.
The tickets were issued to some five coaches in District South, three in District East, 23 in District Central, 14 in District West and nine in District Korangi for violations of route permits.
Also on Monday, Sindh Home Minister Sohail Anwar Siyal chaired a meeting to finalise a plan to install tracking devices in all new and old motorcycles across the province.
The meeting was attended by the home secretary, the transport secretary, the excise secretary, officials of the Citizens- Police Liaison Committee, tracking companies and motorcycle manufacturer associations.
