MINGORA: Speakers paid glowing tributes to Musa Khankhel as the 9th death anniversary of the brave journalist was observed here on Sunday.

District Police Officer Wahid Mehmood, traders, journalists and local elders spoke on the occasion. The speakers lauded the sacrifices of the people of Swat for the restoration of peace.

They said that Musa Khankhel was a courageous journalist, who laid down his life for the cause of freedom of speech.

“He was a brave person and wanted peace in his native Swat district,” said one of his friends.

However, some of the speakers expressed concern that the promise made with the family of the slain journalist was not honoured. “The government had announced to provide a plot of land to the family in Islamabad but the successive governments didn’t bother to fulfill the commitment,” said his brother Ibrahim Khankhel.

The speakers asked the government to materialise the promise of allotment of plot of land in Islamabad to the family.

On February 18, 2009, Musa Khankhel was martyred in Swat’s Matta area. He was in Matta to cover the procession of Maulana

Sufi Muhammad, the chief of Tanzeem Nifaz Shariat-i-Muhammadi (TNSM), when unidentified assailants killed him.
