Pak skier Human finishes 108th in Winter Olympics
KARACHI: Pakistani skier Syed Human finished at the 108th spot out of 119 athletes competing in the 15km cross country event of the Winter Olympic Games at the Alpensia Sports Park in Pyeongchang, South Korea, on Friday.
The 26-year old Human covered the distance in a time of 45 minutes and 19.1 seconds. “It was not a bad effort,” Human told The News after the event from Pyeongchang on Friday.“There was also a wind for a few minutes and you know the world’s leading athletes were part of the contest. It was a good experience and I will try to further improve myself in the discipline,” said Human, who is also the nephew of Olympian Mohammad Karim who is also representing Pakistan in the spectacle.
Dario Cologna of Switzerland clinched gold by clocking 33:43.9, Simen Hegstad Krueger (34.02.2) of Norway finished with silver while Denis Spitsov, an Olympic athlete of Russia, claimed bronze with 34:06.9. Qiang Wang of China was disqualified. Meanwhile Mohammad Karim, who had made his Olympic debut in 2014 in Sochi Games, will compete in giant slalom on Sunday (tomorrow). Karim will then take part in the slalom on February 22. As many as two athletes are representing Pakistan in the competitions.
