PSB approves NA body recommendations

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) Executive Committee that met here Friday approved National Assembly sub-committee recommendations on the appointment of Director General PSB.

The Executive Committee that met under Inter Provincial Coordination (IPC) Minister Riaz Hussain Peerzada however recommended that the candidate must have vast experience of sports management and should preferably have Phd degree from internationally recognised university.

The committee also contemplated on making necessary changes in the Rule 200 of the PSB constitution. The Executive Committee also decided to forward necessary amendments to the Ministry of Law for approval.

The NA sub-committee only last week backed and supported the idea of advertisement to fill in the post of Director General Pakistan Sports Board (PSB). The Committee members were of the opinion that the candidate should at least be having the master degree in sports. “Having a Phd Degree would be an added qualification for the candidate,” NA committees recommended.

Committee suggested that candidate’s age bracket should be between 50-62 years. “A candidate well acquainted with sports, sports development and training should be preferred.”All these recommendations were thoroughly discussed in the PSB Executive Committee meeting. “Members were agreed to move Ministry of Law for legal backing and supports.”

The committee members were also of the opinion that the candidate for the post of DG must be a qualified sports administrator knowing well about the international sports requirements, fielding of contingents in international games and other related expertise in sports management. Later talking to media, the Minister said that efforts were on to complete formalities regarding the establishment of Sports University. “We are in final stage complete all the requirements.” Minister said that the appointment of DG PSB should be made on merit. “Merit should be the only criteria and I would ensure that.” He thanked NA sub-committee for the recommendation. “They have done their job. I am thankful to them for forwarding these recommendations.”
