KARACHI: Abubakr Mahmood converted a penalty corner just two minutes from full-time to salvage a 2-2 draw for Pakistan in a thrilling encounter against Japan at the three-nation hockey tournament the other day at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Muscat, Oman.

Pakistan took an early lead when Shajeeh Saeed scored a field goal in the 10th minute. It remained 1-0 with only a few minutes left in the match when the green-shirts started repeating the same mistakes they had committed recently in Asia Cup and four-nation hockey tournament.

Yamada’s penalty corner strike was followed by Yamasaki’s field goal. However, Pakistan fought back and won a penalty corner that was converted by Abubakr and helped them draw the match. The green-shirts will now face Oman on Saturday (today). They had beaten the hosts 3-0 on Wednesday.
