Experts call for curriculum reform
PESHAWAR: Speakers at an academic session called for training the young generation through curricula which put a greater focus on ethics and character-building to help them face the future challenges amicably.
They were speaking at the Hamdard Foundation monthly session which was arranged at the Peshawar Services Club.
The topic was “Inclusion of morality-based lessons in elementary and higher education curricula”.
A noted cultural activist and speaker of the Shoora-e-Hamdrad, Dr Salahuddin, presided over the session.
The guest speaker was Zabeehullah, the zonal head of “Aafaaq” for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan.
Zabeehullah said preparation of curriculum was basically the duty of the government. He believed that the lessons included in our curricula under the influence of the non-governmental organizations were not in harmony with our religious and national responsibilities.
The speaker said as an ideological nation our curricula should have lessons which should tell us what type of ethics and character our religion demands from students.
Zabeehullah said that our young generation needed training to face the future challenges and good manners should have a major part in it.
Professor Dr Nasiruddin Azam Khan, Ghazala Yousaf, Muhstaq Hussain Bukhari, Sardar Farooq Ahmad Jan Babar, Roshan Khattak, Dr Zakir Shah and others expressed views as well on the occasion. In the end, the gathering offered fateha for the departed soul of Hameed Khattak.
