Mixed gathering at Asma Jahangir’s funeral prayer criticised

PESHAWAR: Jamaat-e-Islami’s former Member National Assembly (MNA) Maulana Abdul Akbar Chitrali and Ittehad Ulema-i-Khyber Pakhtunkhwa leader Attaur Rahman on Wednesday expressed displeasure over the presence of women along with men in the funeral prayer for human rights campaigner Asma Jahangir. 

They were reacting to the mixed gathering at the funeral prayer at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.

Through a statement, they pointed out that Islam didn’t allow its followers to speak ill of the dead and they don’t mean to show disrespect to the deceased lawyer.  

They said though women were allowed to pray at mosque behind the peshimam provided the requisite arrangements were made, there was no proof that during the time of Holy Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (peace be upon him) or reign of the Caliphs the men and women offered mixed prayer at a funeral.
