Qadeer upsets Mubashir in National Snooker
KARACHI: Unseeded Qadeer Abbas shocked fifth seed Mubashir Raza on the second day of league matches of the Jubilee Insurance 43rd National Snooker Championship 2018 here at the Karachi Gymkhana on Tuesday.
It was second defeat in as many days for Mubashir, hailed as one of the most accomplished young cueists of the country. He had earlier been overpowered Muhammad Majid Ali, having been awarded wild entry, on the opening day.
Top seed Asjad Iqbal, who had begun his campaign with an emphatic break of 120 in his first game, registered his second successive victory by defeating Ali Haider while second seed Muhammad Asif, a former world champion, also made it two in two by whacking Haris Nadeem.
Third seed Muhammad Bilal, fourth seed Shahid Aftab, sixth seed Zulfiqar Abdul Qadir and eighth seed Bilal Masih also extended their unbeaten run for the second day running while seventh seed Khurram Hussain Agha opened his account by routing Ahmad Shah in straight frames after having been surprised by Imran Shahzad, another wild card entrant. Zulfiqar Qadir and Babar Masih, in complete command of the situation, also fired a break of 106 each against their respective opponents.
Muhammad Naseem Akhtar, the reigning World Junior champion, continued his march towards victory with his second successive win.A total of 54 cueists, divided in eight groups, are contesting the preliminary round matches which will continue for four more days at the end of which the top two cueists from each group will qualify for the pre-quarter-finals to be held on Saturday while the championship will conclude with the final and the prize distribution ceremony on Tuesday next.
