Canadian Seniors face SSGC in tour opener

KARACHI: The visiting Canadian Seniors cricket team will open their tour of Pakistan with a floodlit match against Sui Southern Gas Company Limited (SSGC) which was due to start here at the Naya Nazimabad Stadium late on Saturday evening.

According to the information made available by Fawad Ijaz Khan, Chairman, Pakistan Veterans Cricket Association (PVCA), the 15-member Canadian squad, comprising of over 40 players, will contest matches against various senior outfits in Karachi before moving on to Lahore where they will be up against different senior teams.

“The Cricket Canada Chief, Ranjit Saini, had requested us to arrange the tour of Canadian Seniors team to Pakistan.

Their Senior Players have now also formed Canada Seniors Cricket Association in Toronto. A lot of Seniors/Veterans cricket is being played in Ontario province of Canada,” the PVCA Chairman disclosed.

The Canadian Seniors team is being by Syed Ahmed Talal Iqbal and its other members are Zulfiqar Khan, Mahmood Ahmed, Farhan Temuri, Naveed Jailani, Adnan Khan, Imran Saleem, Kamran Nabi, Humayun Wahab, Amtiaz Waraich, Tariq Yousuf, Ikram ul Haq Raja, Nadeem Butt, Asad uz Zaman Khan and Kashif Mehar.

As far as the tour itinerary is concerned the visitors, after the opening match against SSGC, will be taking on Omar Associates also at Naya Nazimabad on Sunday Ground while they are due to play against Gold Bridge Media at Moin Khan Cricket Stadium on Tuesday which will be followed by a game against Factdate Engineering at National Bank Stadium, on Wednesday and a match against Rashid Latif Veterans at UBL Bank Stadium on Friday.

In Lahore the Canadians will be pitted against Lahore Gymkhana at Bagh e Jinnah Cricket Ground on February 18 before playing, against Turk Plast at LCCA Cricket Ground on February 19.

They will lock horns with Amar Cables at Country Club Muridke Cricket Ground on February 21 while their last game of the Pakistan tour will be against Punjab Veterans at LCCA Cricket Ground on February 22.
