MARDAN: District Nazim Himayatullah Mayar on Wednesday demanded that Chief Minister Pervez Khattak, provincial minister Shah Farman and lawmaker Iftikhar Ali Mashwani should be nominated in the FIR of the Asma murder case. "The activists of the Awami National Party (ANP) will stage protest in the district against the provincial government for supporting the accused in the murder case," he told a press conference at the Mardan Press Club. A large number of ANP workers were present on the occasion.
Himayatullah Mayar, who is also district president of ANP, said the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)-led provincial government and District Police Officer (DPO) Mian Saeed Ahmed were trying to conceal the facts. He alleged that the DPO was trying to defend the provincial government by distorting facts of the case. The district nazim claimed that Khattak, Shah Farman and Iftikhar Mashwani, who is also PTI district president, supported the accused. He alleged the family of the deceased girl was also pressured. He added that the police should immediately arrest the other accused in the murder of actress Sumbal, who was recently gunned down at her residence at Sheikh Maltoon in Mardan.
The district nazim announced Rs0.5 million for the investigation team of Asma murder case and Rs0.5 million for Mardan Press Club for highlighting it. He demanded that Asma murder case should be heard on daily basis.
Meanwhile, the Sheikh Maltoon Police Station registered a case against Himayatullah Mayar on the complaint of Dr Tariq Mehmood of Mardan Medical Complex. However, he secured the bail before arrest from court.
