Waseem may fight Higa for world title
KARACHI: The World Boxing Council (WBC) world silver flyweight champion Mohammad Waseem is expected to fight against reigning world champion Daigo Higa of Japan in the world title fight this summer.
A few days ago due to financial issues the fight was not in sight. Waseem’s promoter Andy Kim had also ended his communication with the Quetta-born fighter. But on February 4, on the facebook page of AK Promotions being headed by Kim, a post was seen which created a hope for Waseem’s fight against the knock-out artist Higa in Japan in May.
“We want to fight Daigo Higa. He just won tonight and Waseem is number one. So let’s get it on. Already Waseem is the only fighter who can knock Higa out,” the post stated. This correspondent has also learnt that a source close to Kim has also communicated to Waseem that his promoter wants to have him fight against Higa despite all financial issues.
However, Kim himself has not yet communicated anything to Waseem about his intention. Meanwhile, Waseem has started his training in Quetta for the expected fight. The other day, Higa in a press briefing had also hinted about his expected fight against the challenger Waseem, who is WBC number one fighter.
