Wake-up call

In the face of soaring sectarian violence, our religious scholars need to teach people how to differentiate between right and wrong. They should make use of available forums to bring different religious sects closer. They should use the media to promote tolerance and equality among us all. They should interpret the true teachings of Islam that discourage intolerance in general and sectarianism in particular.
In addition, scholars who belong to politico-religious parties should table resolutions in parliament to emphasise the sanctity of life. Most importantly, our learned scholars should denounce those whose misinterpretation of religious teachings and history cause friction among people.
