21 theatres barred from surgery

LAHORE:The Punjab Healthcare Commission directed 14 hospitals to suspend surgeries in their 21 operation theatres and issued show cause notices to 26 health establishments for violating the PHC Act-2010 and not implementing the Minimum Service Delivery Standards (MSDS).

The hospitals were ordered to suspend surgeries because their operation theaters were unfit for any medical procedures. The OTs would become functional only after the administrations concerned would submit laboratory reports and written replies to the PHC after implementation of the standardised measures.

During the inspection of both public and private hospitals of different districts during the last two working days PHC issued notices to nine hospitals for not taking requisite measures for the disposal of the medical waste. One each operation theatres in 10 hospitals was suspended for surgeries.

These hospitals include Islamia Hospital Chiniot, Punjab Social Security Health Management Company Hospital Muzaffargarh, Chiniot General Hospital Faisalabad, DHQ Hospitals of Okara, Muzaffargarh, Khanewal and South City Okara, THQ Hospitals of Sadiqabad, Pasrur, Bhalwal, Shahpur and Bhera. The Gujrat Hospital and THQ Rahim Yar Khan have two each, whereas four and three operation theatres of the Aziz Bhatti Shaheed Teaching Hospital Sialkot and DHQ Hospital Sheikhupura had been suspended for all types of surgeries.
