KARACHI: Consultant to the Prime Minister’s Inspection Commission (PMIC) and Adviser Transparency International Pakistan (TIP) Aadil Gilani Tuesday said his appointment as consultant was not a conflict of interest, as it was not an appointment and the position of consultant was not an official post.
Talking to The News, Gilani said he was not appointed as secretary, deputy secretary or chairman and simply his name was recommended by the chairman Transparency International Pakistan on the request of the prime minister.
According to Gilani, the prime minister requested the chairman TIP to recommend any name for his team to keep an eye on corruption.
“The chairman TIP recommended my name and told the Prime Minister’s Office clearly that this position will be honorary and no remuneration or salary will be drawn.”
The News asked how he could do justice to his role in the TIP while being a team member of the prime minister, Gilani said he was also involved with the Sindh government to help check corrupt practices in the provincial government departments.
“No conflict of interest is likely as TI-P is going to guide the federal government to check malpractices,” he asserted.Gilani said he had been Board Member of Sindh Public Procurement Authority (SPPRA) for the last four years.
To a question about the notification of his posting, Gilani said as he was not occupying any official post, so there was no need to issue any notification. “A proper procedure was adopted for my position.”
Asked if there was no position of consultant in the Prime Minister Inspection Commission (PMIC) laws, how he would justify his position, Gilani said the prime minister should be questioned in this regard.Mr. Gilani claimed that some powerful groups were against him due to his role in exposing their corruption and they were managing cases against him in courts. “Let’s all wait for the decision of court, as my position is challenged,” concluded Gilani.
