SYDNEY: Australia pacer Sarah Coyte has come out of retirement to join up with the Sydney Sixers squad for the remainder of the WBBL.
The table-toppers have roped in Coyte and England’s Amy Jones as replacement for South African pair of Dane van Niekerk and Marizanne Kapp, who have returned home for a series against India
Coyte had decided to decline the contract offered to her by Cricket Australia in 2016, and announced exit from the international game at the age of 25 in order to be close to home and deal with her anxiety issues. “I am going home to Sydney to be close to my family and restore some balance to my life,” Coyte had said.
But the 26-year-old has now opted to end the year’s hiatus she has had to make a comeback via WBBL. “Sometimes you’ve got to face the demons,” Coyte told AAP. “This is the biggest challenge. I want to see what this last year has done for me ...to see how much stronger my mind’s gotten and see how much better it’s got to deal with the anxiety it all creates.”
Coyte was approached by Sixers’ coach Ben Sawyer, after she had played some grade cricket in Sydney this summer. The speedster is now set to mark her comeback in Sixers’ fixture against her former employers Adelaide Strikers - whom she played for in the first and second editions of WBBL.
