Property dealer commits suicide over financial issues

LAHORE: A 33-year-old property dealer committed suicide by shooting himself in his temple in the Ravi Road area on Tuesday.

The deceased was identified as Azeem of Kasurpura. He was depressed over his poor financial condition. On the day of the incident, he locked himself up in a room and shot himself to death. The body has has been removed to morgue.

Book shop gutted: Stationery items worth thousands of rupees were reduced to ashes when a fire broke out in a book shop in the Baghbanpura area on Tuesday. The cause of the fire was stated to be a short-circuit. Firefighters extinguished it after hectic efforts. No casualty was reported.

Woman injured: A woman sustained injuries when a gas cylinder exploded in her house at Gulshan Ravi on Tuesday. Rescuers removed the injured woman, identified as Razia, wife of Islam, to hospital where her condition was stated to be stable.

Hearing: The Punjab Highway Patrol DIG held an orderly room to hear the appeals of PHP personnel. The DIG heard 15 applications of Punjab Highway Patrol personnel. He rejected the appeal of two constables, Hassan Umar and Muhammad Iqbal, who were dismissed from service.

He set aside the punishments awarded to five personnel; SI Asad Ali, Kamran Ali, ASI Tariq Saleem, Asghar Ali and Mehmood Akbar. He awarded punishment of forfeiture to five officials; SI Muhammad Tayyab, ASI Sajid Ali, Fateh Muhammad, Constable Abdul Ghafoor and Imran ul Hassan.

rewarded: The SSP Investigation gave away cash prizes and commendatory certificates to 25 investigation officers for submitting challans of 25 drug pushers to the courts.

Those who received the cash prizes and commendatory certificates include sub-inspectors Muhammad Aslam, Yaqoob, SI Muhammad Hussain, Muhammad Asif, Shahbaz Akhtar, Sarwar, Muhammad Akram, Jameel and Bashir Ahmad.

Police training: The additional IG, Training, has said the process of upgrade of the training system of police in accordance with modern parameters has been accelerated and, except the basic rules of practical policing, the subjects of IT, legal studies, physical training, sports and extracurricular activities have been made mandatory in training syllabus so that there is no deficiency in training of the officers and officials.

He said this during a meeting with a three-member delegation of the British High Commission. The delegation comprised Simon Charder, Richil and Saadia Ambreen. The additional IG, Training, said that new modules had been added to the training courses for the constable to sub-inspector ranks with respect to their duties.

Bilateral cooperation and professional training of Punjab police were discussed during the meeting. The additional IG told to British delegation that specialised courses had been launched for instructors to increase efficiency of police training colleges and schools. He said the projects of new training colleges in Sahiwal and Dera Ghazi Khan were under process while the project of the school of investigation had been launched.

The delegates showed their interest in mutual cooperation with respect to criminal justice reforms and anti-terrorism cases, and also gave suggestions for improvement in Punjab police training.
