Mighty Wings stuns favourite in Lahore races

LAHORE: The main Bloom Maid Cup of the day saw Mighty Wings stun the favourite pony at Lahore Race Club on Sunday.

In the cup race, Yakeen was favourite and Mighty Wings was on fluke which worked well for the later that won the race. There were in all seven races scheduled for the day and apart from the cup races, the other six were Murree Plates. Sweet Bullet which was expected to take the place actually surprised everyone by winning the race and the place was taken by Anmol One. The third position in the race was also a surprise given by Black Smoke. In this race Sweet Miracle was favourite.

The second race was also an upset staged by Dandla Queen while Artigal became second and Aftab Prince was third. Everyone’s expectations on Zil-e-Huma and Music Boy for first position and second place dashed in. Payara Sain was believed to stage a surprise and it did it by winning the race and similar surprise was seen in second and third positions which were taken by Very Special and Prince of Dubai. The ponies beaten here were Lead Them Home and Star of Dubai.

Candle javing an outside chance of upset lit at the top in the fourth race. It was followed by Neeli The Great at second position and the third place went to Dil De Rani. I Swear and Power of Dream sunk its followers. The fifth race was Bloom Maid Cup and Mighty Wings flew above all and saw Street Smart taking the second position and Prince taking the third position. Here Yakeen was favourite but it could finish fifth.

In the sixth race, Satla Queen was the winner, Proposal was second and Gawandal Prince was third. The favourite pony Don’t Stop Me could not match the pace of the race. In the final run, Nido’s Dream surpassed the favourite while Shan-e-Sikandar was second and River Road was third. Keep it Up and Abdullah Princess spoiled several pundits belief with their loss.
