Two citizens shot in late night muggings

As the menace of street crimes continues to plague Karachi, two citizens were shot and injured in muggings reported in the city early on Sunday morning.

As per officials, a 52-year-old man identified as Sajid Qadir was admitted to a hospital after he was shot by unidentified suspects during a mugging bid near Kala Pul, Korangi Road.

Officials said Sajid was travelling on his bike when two suspects on another bike intercepted his vehicle and held him at gunpoint. It was said that Sajid resisted the robbers’ demand to hand over his wallet and mobile phone, resulting in the muggers shooting him at close range.

While the suspects managed to escape with his valuables, Sajid was rushed to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre after area people called an ambulance. The victim’s condition was later said to be out of imminent danger.

In another mugging reported in the wee hours of Sunday, 40-year-old Ameen, son of Sharafat Ali, was shot and injured by robbers in Orangi Town.

Officials said the victim had tried to flee from the robbers and was shot by the suspects. The muggers escaped with his valuables and Ameen was later admitted to the JPMC.

Road crash

A 35 year old man died in a road accident in the Hub Chowki area on Sunday. Rescue officials identified the victim as Sabir Hussain and said he was hit by a speeding vehicle while crossing a road. The victim, who suffered extensive injuries in the crash, died on the spot and his body was later shifted to the Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi.
