SC gives 15 days to solve bank pensioners issue

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court (SC) on Thursday granted 15 more days to management of banks to come up with viable solutions to problems of bank pensioners and warned if no solution was found amicably, the court would give its verdict in accordance with law. A Supreme Court bench headed by Chief Justice Saqib Nisar comprising Justice Umar Atta Bandiyal and Justice Ijazul Ahsan continued hearing into suo moto case and asked management of banks to come up with viable solutions to difficulties being faced by bank pensioners. While referring to lawyers of banks, Chief Justice of the apex court said that there should be balanced approach with regard to demands of pensioners and stance taken by the management of banks. “We don’t want that whole ship to sink in the wake of our decision,” he added. He said if they took decision on immediate basis it could cause increased financial burden on banks but reminded that no one had taken care of pensioners. The court decided to give 15 more days to banks to reply by presenting viable options before the apex court and adjourned this case till its next hearing.
