KMC asks Sindh Bank to install biometric system

The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation administrator has urged the Sindh Bank to acquire biometric system soon so that salaries to the KMC employees can be disbursed through the bank.
Saqib Soomro said, “This would enable the corporation to save its resources as payment of salaries to ghost workers will stop.” In the meeting with the officers of Sindh Bank on Monday, he insisted them on expediting the process for establishing the biometric system.
Soomro also directed the KMC metropolitan commissioner and financial advisor to speed up proceedings in this regard and provide all required facilities to the Sindh Bank.
The Sindh Bank delegation informed the administrator that a total of 66 branches were operational in the city, adding as an immediate arrangement the bank will also set up its counter at the Civic Centre and the permanent branch will be established soon with the approval of the State Bank for which steps were under way. They said that the biometric system could only be established with the coordination of the National Database and Registration Authority.
Moreover, in a meeting with the delegation of Karachi Development Authority Labour Union, Soomro said the KMC was following the policy of paying the salaries to its staff first and then moving towards solving other problems.
The administrator instructed the finance department to arrange for payment of salaries to the KDA staff on time and assured the delegation that no payment to any contractor will be made prior to disbursement of salaries to the employees.
Cleanliness drive
The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation administrator has urged the need of close coordination among all municipal bodies for the success of ongoing cleanliness campaign in the city.
Saqib Soomro was chairing a meeting held here on Monday regarding the drive.
The sitting was informed that the municipal corporations has removed and transferred about 8,500 tonnes of garbage to the landfill sites during the past one week, whereas more than 20,000 saplings have been planted during green city campaign.
The meeting was also briefed about the improvement and paint work on the trees, electric poles and pavements to restore the beauty of the city.
Soomro directed the parks department to speed up the tree plantation work and called for cleaning of roads, flyovers and bridges on the permanent basis.
