LAHORE: A review petition has been moved in the Supreme Court challenging a larger bench’s decision which allowed the Punjab government to carry out Orange Line Metro Train Project.
Advocate Azhar Siddique moved the petition in the Supreme Court Lahore registry. The lawyer said the larger bench of the Supreme Court had ignored all those points mentioned in Lahore High Court’s judgment on the project. All the historical monuments falling on the route were at stake, he says in the petition. The petitioner alleged that the Punjab government before the SC concealed facts about the project. He further said the points mentioned by the SC larger bench regarding protection and safety of historical monuments were insufficient.
He submitted that with the present conditions allowed by the top court, the monuments were at stake. In addition to this, he said, the Punjab government was not following the directions of the SC given in this regard. Therefore, the great heritage of Lahore acknowledged by the international community was going to be lost, he argued. The lawyer said all the relevant departments had also been conveyed about the possible danger to the national heritage falling on the route of the train project. He asked the court to review the judgment and restrain the government from carrying out the project.
