Students make beeline for Jang International Education Expo’18

LAHORE: A large number of students visited International Education Expo'18 organised by the Jang Media Group at PC hotel here on Monday.

Supported by Falcon Education & Consultancy Services (Private) Ltd, the event provided prospective students a wonderful opportunity to interact with representative of top foreign universities and get firsthand information related to academic programmes, fee structure and scholarships.

With free entry and dozens of foreign universities offering free information, the event proved a great help for visiting students and their parents who explored booths set up at the expo and put pertinent questions to the representative of the participating universities and higher education institutes from different parts of the world.

"The presence of so many foreign universities and their representatives in the expo is simply great," commented one of the visitors, Rehan Ahmed. He added such events were indeed helpful for students planning to study abroad.

Another visitor, Maryam said she felt herself lucky enough to directly interact with the foreign universities and added the expo was time saving and rewarding as many of her queries were answered right on the spot.

An interesting part of the International Education Expo'18 was a free seminar "Counselling in 21st Century and Emerging Subject Areas" by acclaimed educationist and career counsellor Syed Abidi which was attended by a large number of visiting students and parents.

In his presentation, Syed Abidi highlighted the need of counselling at the right time saying the career counselling, though involved guidance, coaching and mentoring, was quite comprehensive in nature and only experienced and qualified individuals could perform this task.

A recipient of coveted Tamgha-e-Imtiaz (TI), Syed Abidi informed the participants as to how the students, getting right counselling at the right time, could carve a niche for themselves. He also elaborated emerging subject areas vis-à-vis evolving job market at national and international level.

Syed Abidi talked about study abroad options and scholarship opportunities available to Pakistani students and how to avail the same and secure place at top ranking universities of the world.

Dr Alsnosy Balbaa, PhD, Vice-President for African and Asian Affairs at the Arab Academy for Science, Technology & Maritime Transport (AASTMT), talking to The News said AASTM started as a maritime institute in Egypt in 1972 had today campuses in four other countries and a good number of foreign students enrolled in internationally accredited programmes.

Dr Alsnosy said AASTMT was offering partial or semi-partial scholarships depending upon academic scores of the candidates. He further said Pakistan had huge potential in terms of students' outbound mobility.

The universities and organisations which were part of the Jang Media Group's International Education Expo'18 included University of East Anglia, University of Huddersfield, AASTMT, Eastern Mediterranean University, SEGi College, the University of New Castle Australia, Learning Bytes, University of Debrecen, Memorial University, Asia Pacific University, European University of Lefke, University of Sussex, Loughborough University, University of Wolverhampton, Global University Systems, University of the West of Scotland, Middlesex University, Sheffield Hallam University, University of Hertfordshire, INTO, Queen Mary University, STEPS and University of Warwick.
