LAHORE: Punjab Saaf Pani Company Chief Executive Officer Nabeel Javed has resigned from his post after Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif criticised his performance during a meeting held on Friday last.

Sources in the company said that Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif asked sharp questions from Nabeel Javed during a meeting held Friday last and criticised his performance over execution of tenders for installation of water filtration plants in remote areas of Rajanpur and Dera Ghazi Khan.

Sources said Nabeel Javed was giving a presentation to the chief minister during which he told that execution of tenders for installation of water filtration plants in two tribal tehsils of Rajanpur and DG Khan will be delayed for two weeks. As per the proposed plan, execution of water filtration plants in two tribal tehsils of these districts was due to start in December 2017, but it was delayed because of ongoing technical evaluation as per Pepra rules. Sources said this infuriated the chief minister who told Nabeel Javed to discontinue his services from the company. “You may please discontinue your services from Saaf Pani Company,” sources said while quoting the chief minister. It may be recalled that the chief minister had appointed Nabeel Javed with Wasim Ajmal who was accused of corruption. Punjab Anti-Corruption department also registered a case against Wasim Ajmal but nothing has been proved yet.

Nabeel Javed, an officer of Pakistan Administrative Service, held various important posts during his illustrious career such as LDA director general, secretary industries, commerce & investment, District Coordination Officer Rahimyar Khan, Local Government & Community director general, District Coordination Officer Nankana Sahib, Additional Secretary (Home Department) Punjab, Deputy Secretary (Cabinet) and Assistant Commissioner & Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT).

Nabeel Javed holds a Master’s Degree in Public Administration (Programme in Economic Policy Management) from School of International & Public Affairs, Columbia University, New York, USA. He also holds Master’s Degree in Economics and Public Policy from Korea Development Institute, School of Public Policy and Management, Seoul, Republic of Korea.

Nabeel Javed while talking with The News confirmed that he has been replaced by Capt ® Usman. He, however, refused to give any comment on the incident and said as a civil servant his job is to obey order. Over a question, he said he has not been given any new assignment yet.
