PESHAWAR: The dissident Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) lawmaker Javed Naseem has been issued a show cause notice for defying the party directives and showing indiscipline.
He has been directed to reply to the showcause notice with 24 hours or face disciplinary action. The showcause notice said Javed Naseem had violated party discipline by proposing the candidature of an independent candidate for the Senate who was a rival of the PTI.
Javed Naseem, who was elected from an urban provincial assembly constituency of Peshawar, has proposed Waqar Ahmad Khan, a former Senator, as the candidate for the Senate polls being held on March 5. Waqar’s younger brother Ammar Ahmad Khan is also a candidate for the Senate, though he was recently granted ticket by Aftab Sherpao’s Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) to contest the election for the Upper House of Parliament.
The PTI issued the showcause notice to Javed Naseem two days after a similar action taken by the PML-N against its dissident MPA, Wajeehuzzaman, who too in defiance of the party decision proposed and seconded Waqar Ahmad Khan and Ammar Ahmad Khan as candidates in the Senate elections.
Javed Naseem had been defying the PTI leadership for sometimes now. He claimed his struggle was for keeping the PTI on track as it was deviating from its manifesto and programme.
The party had been planning disciplinary action against him, but some in the PTI kept trying until recently to reconcile with him. There were even reports that reconciliation had already taken place. Following the issuance of showcause notice to him on Sunday, Javed Naseem was quoted as saying that the PTI had already expelled him from the party so it was strange that he was being showcause notice to explain his position.
