LAHORE: Pakistan and Iran can collaborate in numerous academic areas like technology, literature, art and research as both countries have common literary and cultural heritage. Firdausi, Sheikh Saadi and Allama Muhammad Iqbal are equally popular in both countries.
This was said in a ceremony organised to launch Firdausi Chair in the Lahore College for Women University (LCWU) here on Friday. Punjab Finance Minister Ayesha Ghaus Pasha was the chief guest. Iran Cultural Consul in Islamabad Shahab-ud-Din Darai, Islamic Culture and Relations Organisation DG Malkuti Tabar and Punjab Additional Chief Secretary Omer Rasool and LCWU Vice-Chancellor Dr Uzma Qureshi were among the guests who unveiled the statue of Firdausi in the newly renovated auditorium. A documentary regarding Iranian National Poet Firdausi and his master piece “Shahnama” was also presented.
Persian Departmnet Head Dr Faleeha Zahra Kazmi highlighted the basis of Iran Pakistan relations and appreciated the cooperation of Iran in education sector in Pakistan. Ayesha Ghaus discussed the importance of Iqbal and Firdausi’s poetry.
