Islamabad: A contract was signed Friday between the Ministry of Health and Nespak for the construction of a central warehouse, which will not only meet the requirements of three priority communicable diseases but also serve the purpose of warehousing and logistic support for other health programmes.
The warehouse, which will be located at the federal level, will provide state-of-the-art warehousing and logistic support for the AIDS, TB and Malaria programmes. It also has the potential of becoming a role model for the provinces for the best warehousing and logistic practices.
The initiative will also integrate the supply chain management functions of the three national programmes. This will not only ensure efficiency by avoiding duplication of activities but will also bring efficiency in available financial resources in the long term. Such saving can be diverted towards other health needs in the country.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister for Health Saira Afzal termed the step as a small but strategically significant milestone and congratulated Nespak for winning the contract for engineering consultancy services for the warehouse. “I am sure Nespak will deliver results in the shortest possible time without compromising on quality,” she concluded.
