A 23-year-old cop was martyred by unidentified assailants in an attack in Federal B Area’s Block 11 on Friday. SHO Majid Alvi of the Gulberg police station told The News that the law enforcer was targeted near Ghausia Masjid, Landi Kotal Chowrangi, at 8:10am.
Acting on information provided by residents, police attended the scene and took the injured man to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead on his arrival. With the help of the service card found on him, the victim was identified as Police Constable Shakir Ahmad.
The cop was in plain clothes at the time of the attack and was deployed at the office of the District Central SSP. Police contacted the victim’s family, and they confirmed that Shakir had left the house to attend office.
A medico-legal examiner said in his report that the police constable was hit by two bullets, one each in his head and right shoulder. He added police found empty cartridges of a 9mm pistol at the crime scene which they sent to a laboratory for a forensic examination.
Sindh Inspector General of Police (IGP) AD Khowaja took notice on the martyrdom of the cop and sought a inquiry report from the DIG West. Home Minister Sohail Anwar Khan Siyal also took notice of the incident and sought a report from the DIG. He ordered an impartial inquiry from all angles. Later, the funeral prayers were offered for the slain cop at the DIG office in Gulberg.
