No action against illegal animal slaughtering

Rawalpindi: The butchers are slaughtering animals in open along roadsides at Adiala Road and mixing water in meat, but officials concerned are taking no action against them.

The nose of the water pipe is fixed with the jugular vein of the slaughtered animal and high-powered motor is used to inject water it into the meat, which can go up by 25 per cent. The butcher mafia of Adiala Road not only providing unhygienic meat but looting consumers by both hands by selling 1-kilogram mutton at Rs800-900 and beef at Rs500.

The butcher mafia on regular basis slaughter animals at Khawaja Corporation, Defence Road, Jarahi, Ali Town, Madina Town, Kalyal, Gorakhpur, Samarzar and several other localities. Some of the have their own private slaughterhouses while others are slaughtering their animals in the open.

Jamiat Al Qureish President Khurshid Qureshi said that we are continuously demanding government to establish more and more slaughterhouses in Rawalpindi and Islamabad to avoid this deadly practice. There is a slaughterhouse in Rawalpindi but federal capital Islamabad is without slaughterhouse, nobody is considering this serious issue, he strongly denounced.

Special Price Magistrate Mehar Abbas said that Under the Animal Slaughter Control Act 1963 we can arrest people running unregulated slaughterhouses. We are continuously taking action registering FIRs and imposing big fines against butchers they are selling unhygienic meat in skyrocketing rates, he said.

According to health experts, consumers only have one option to save themselves from eating unhygienic/water mixed meat. Whenever you go to buy meat, observe it closely to make sure that water is not dripping from it, they advised.

Talking to ‘The News’ residents of affected localities are appealed government officials to stop this violation of butcher mafia. Bad smell is everywhere due to slaughtering animals in open, they denounced.
