Five of a family, passerby die in house collapse
LAHORE : Six people, including a couple and their three children, were killed when a three-storey dilapidated house collapsed in the Mochi Gate area on Saturday.
The victims were identified as Ghulam Abbas, his wife Maryam, three children Ali Gohar, 15, Zahid Abbas, 13, Manahil, 7, and a passerby Qadeer. Rescuers pull out the bodies from the debris after hectic efforts.
Suicide bid: A man climbed up an electricity pole in an attempt to commit suicide in the Sherakot police area on Saturday.
The man, Ashraf, climbed up the electricity pole in protest against torture committed on him during a fight between two parties. Dozens of people gathered around the pole and asked him to climb down but he refused to do so. Police arrived there and negotiated with him for two hours and he finally came down from the pole. He was taken to the police station. Police suspected that he was not mentally fit.
Heroin seized: The Airport Security Force (ASF) arrested a man at Allama Iqbal International Airport on Saturday and seized heroin from his possession.
ANF officials arrested Salim Ahmad who was trying to smuggle heroin to Mali. The Anti-Narcotics Force has registered a case against him and sent him to jail.
Three die: Three people were killed in different accidents on Saturday.
A 20-year-old youth, identified as Hozaifa, died when his speeding bike went straight into a canal on Ghaus ul Azam Road. Police fished out his body from the canal and removed it to mortuary. The accident took place due to speeding, police said.
A youth was killed by an oil tanker in the Shahdara police jurisdiction. Victim Abdullah was on his way on a bike when a speeding oil tanker hit and killed him.
A 50-year-old man was killed by a speeding car in the Islampura police.The victim, yet to be identified, was on his way when he was run over and killed by a rashly-driven car.
Meanwhile, a 35-year-old man, identified as Faisal, died under mysterious circumstances in Nishtar Colony area.
suicide: A 24-year-old married woman committed suicide by hanging herself with a rope in the Kot Lakhpat area on Saturday.
Depressed over being childless, the woman ended her life by hanging herself with a rope. Police have handed over the body to her heirs after completing legal formalities.
firing: Three people were wounded when some persons fired into the air at a wedding function in the Batapur area.
Accused Sadam, Qaisar and others started firing shots into the air, as a result of which, three people, identified as Salman, 38, Waqar, 20 and Chand, 12, suffered wounds. They were rushed to hospital where their condition was stated to be stable.
