ISLAMABAD: The government has decided to reactivate the Parliamentary Committee on Constitutional Reforms, while summoning the meeting of its sub-committee on March 4. The sub-committee of the Parliamentary Committee on Constitutional Reforms, headed by Zahid Hamid, held its last meeting in November before his resignation from the cabinet of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif as a Minister for Science and Technology following his name came as a co-accused with General (R) Pervez Musharraf by a special court under Article 6 of the Constitution.
Since then no meeting of the sub-committee was held, but now the meeting of the committee was summoned on March 4, 2015, and it is expected that the government may send its draft of the constitutional amendment to eliminate the horse-trading in the Senate elections. The Parliamentary Committee on Constitutional Reforms was headed by Finance Minister Senator Ishaq Dar, and all the parliamentary parties have representation in it.
The scope of work of the committee include, but not limited to, making recommendations in respect of electoral reforms, required to ensure free, fair and transparent elections, including adoption of the latest technology, available for holding elections, along with draft legislation including constitutional amendments, if required for this purpose.
