‘Blood of APS martyrs united nation’

LAHORE: The University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) in collaboration with the Punjab Higher Education Commission (PHEC) and Inter-University Consortium for the Promotion of Social Sciences (IUCPSS) Friday organised a concluding ceremony of a week-long awareness campaign on UVAS city campus to commemorate the martyrs of Army Public School Peshawar (APS).

Punjab Higher Education Commission Chairperson Prof Dr Muhammad Nizam-ud-Din presided over the concluding ceremony, while UVAS Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof Dr Talat Naseer Pasha, GCU VC Syed Hassan Amir Shah, UoE Lahore VC Dr Rauf-i-Azam, GUC Faisalabad VC Dr Muhammad Ali Shah, BZU Acting VC Dr Bashir Ahmed, students, faculty members and representatives of civil society attended the ceremony.

Prof Nizam-ud-Din said the blood of APS martyrs had united the nation against menace of terrorism. He emphasised the need to work at individual and national level to counter terrorism. “PHEC is actively promoting the message of peace and tolerance in the society especially in higher education institutions through its various initiatives,” he added. Prof Talat said we could alleviate poverty and terrorism through quality education. He reiterated to defeat such barbaric and coward elements through honing the intellectual skills.

Dr Rauf-e-Azam emphasised collective efforts towards peaceful and tolerant campuses. “We must promote the values of co-existence and harmony in the youth”, he said. He vowed to undertake joint efforts to uproot the menace of terrorism through an active engagement of university students and faculty in various pro-social and co-curricular activities.

The aim of weeklong-activities was to create awareness among youth to promote peace and tolerance in society. Various performances including debate, poetry, music, artwork, and poster presentations were featured in the campaign.

The campaign was held in different universities of Punjab to pay tribute to martyrs of APS Peshawar and highlighted the message of peace.NOC to FJMU: A delegation of Higher Education Commission of Pakistan (HEC) visited Fatima Jinnah Medical University (FJMU) for the purpose of accreditation and grant of NOC.

Upon meeting the standards, HEC issued No Objection Certificate (NOC) for FJMU.With this recommendation FJMU has been included in the list of recognised universities of HEC. FJMU is now one of the three medical universities of public sector in Punjab meeting the criteria set by HEC.

Fatima Jinnah Medical University Vice-Chancellor Prof Khalid Masood Gondal said the credit for this achievement goes to members of academic council, faculty members, QEC, and students of FJMU.Clean villages scheme: The Punjab government Friday approved Khadim-e-Punjab Saaf Dehaat Programme at a cost of Rs4.705 billion.

The scheme was approved in the 41st meeting of the Provincial Development Working Party (PDWP) of fiscal year 2017-18 presided by P&D Chairman Muhammad Jahanzeb Khan. Planning and Development (P&D) Secretary Iftikhar Ali Sahoo, P&D board members, Provincial Secretaries concerned, P&D Coordination-II Assistant Chief Hafiz Muhammad Iqbal and senior representatives of relevant Provincial Departments attended the meeting.
