Rawalpindi: The residents of Union Council (UC-7) have appealed to the Mayor of Rawalpindi to give attention towards their longstanding problem of provision of clean drinking water as water borne diseases in the area are spreading fast with each passing day.

Councillor Zahid Mehmood said the water and sewerage pipelines were laid down some thirty years ago in this union council but now the people have been subjected to contaminated water due to leakage in the pipelines. The areas where water borne diseases have largely surfaced in the recent past included Awan Chowk, Mohallah Loharan, Mohallah Noorani, Mohallah Quaidabad, Mohallah Ayubabad and Muslimabad The residents including Afzal Khan, Yaqoob Malik, Sajid Mehmood and Amir Abbasi said the local member of provincial assembly (MPA) announced a package for provision of clean drinking water but it has so far not been implemented due to unknown reasons.

They said Gali No. 2 of Muslimabad and Gali No. 3 of Ajoobabad are presenting a bleak picture of level of cleanliness in the area, adding “The residents have been marginalised despite the fact that the elected representatives visited this area time and again and made pledges to resolve their problems.”
