A city without libraries
December 18, 2017
Quetta was once known as ‘Little London’. But the situation has changed drastically over time. In 2016, I visited in Quetta city and discovered that the entire metropolis had just one public library – and that too was far too small to satiate a reader’s interest.
A new library has been set up in place of a public library that was destroyed in the 1935 earthquake. However, the facility only contains 200 seats which are not sufficient to accommodate the vast number of scholars and students who visit the library on a daily basis. The government is requested to establish another public library as the intellectual growth of our new generation must be prioritised.
