SUKKUR: Sindh government has planned a 20-megawatt power plant at the Khairpur special economic zone (KSEZ), the first agro-based zone in the country, a top official said on Monday.
Captain Anwar-ul-Haq, project director of KSEZ, said investors at the zone will enjoy exemption from customs duty.
“The zone will give a boost to the economy and create job opportunities,” Captain Anwar briefed Chief Minister Sindh Qaim Ali Shah at the inauguration ceremony of the zone. “The government has allotted lands at the zone to 10 different investors after the scrutiny.”
He added that the revenue from KSEZ will be utilised for its development.
The provincial chief minister assured the provision of water, electricity and security for the interest of public development. “Sindh government will provide all facilities to investors, who are interested to invest in KSEZ,” he said.
“There is a big investment potential in the country,” said Shah. “There are raw materials and skilled youth has a capacity to run any industrial unit.”
The provincial CM said the zone will bring economic prosperity in the province.
The economic coordination committee of the cabinet has already approved the establishment of KSEZ.
Shah said the cold storage and dates dehydration plant will be set up at the zone. Dates processing will be scientifically carried on, he added. “Tissue culture has been introduced to increase yield.”
“Both traders and labourers will benefit from the project, which will give a boost to the economy,” he said. “Sindh government has decided to establish such type of zones in every district.” Member of National Assembly Nafisa Shah, Commissioner Sukkur and others also spoke on.
