Situation is suspicious, Ayaz knows better: Khursheed

ISLAMABAD: Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Syed Khursheed Shah said on Thursday that the National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq’s statement regarding his fears that the assemblies might not complete their constitutional tenure was the inside story as he had more understanding of the prevailing situation.

“NA Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq had more sense and understanding of the situation, which is suspicious because one party is putting pressure for early polls and if elections are not held, there will be a civil war,” he said while talking to newsmen in his chamber in the Parliament House.

Responding to a question regarding the statement of Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq in which he stated that there was a greater plan and he did not see the assemblies completing their constitutional tenure, the opposition leader said that the situation was being created for the fights and the country was passing through a critical situation. “Everyone knows and realises what the threats the country is facing and this situation calls for opening the eyes to realise the threats which the country is facing,” he said.

Syed Khursheed Shah warned of consequences if there was a danger to the state and institutions, saying that if the state and its institutions were weakened, it would be dangerous for the country. “After the US decision on Jerusalem, Pakistan and all the stakeholders need to sit together to work on how to save the country, its institutions and democracy,” he said. Asked about his views on the assertion of the Speaker that if legislation for the delimitation of constituencies was not made, elections could not be held and the smaller provinces could approach the courts of law, the opposition leader was hopeful of resolution of the issue, saying the issue of legislation of delimitation was going on and it would be resolved in the current session of the Senate. To another question, Syed Khursheed Shah said it was always the stance of the PPP that elections be held on time and assemblies must complete their tenure.
