‘Postgraduate trainee doctor seats to be increased’

LAHORE: Secretary Specialised Healthcare & Medical Education Najam Ahmad Shah has said that postgraduate trainee doctor seats would be increased according to the bed ratio of the hospital.

He said that on the directions of Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, Nishtar Hospital-II would be established in Multan to cater the medical requirements of the people of Multan and Southern Punjab. On this project, Rs10 billion would be spent for which a piece of land has also been identified. He stated this while talking to a delegation of Multan YDA (Reformers) in his office on Wednesday, according to a handout issued here.

The delegation was headed by Dr Mian Adnan who called on him. Prof Amir Zaman Khan, Addl Secretary Health Raja Mansoor, Addl Secretary Development Health Shahid Rehman, Chief Planning Officer Abdul Haq Bhatti, Director PITB Badar and other officers.

Secretary Health Najam Ahmad Shah informed that infrastructural as well as software development is underway to provide quality healthcare services to the people of province especially southern Punjab. He said the main objective of all the efforts and the initiatives is to provide best health facilities to the patients. He reiterated that in our system, patient care is the priority number one.

Najam Ahmad Shah gave approval to establish separate emergency medicine department in Nishtar Hospital. He said that cadre of emergency department doctors would also be separated. He approved the setting up of lab in the Nishtar Hospital. Moreover, 18-bed ICU would be established and additional ventilators also be provided. He said positive results of central induction policy for PGs can be seen as 186 PG training doctors have been inducted in anesthesia, previously very few PG doctors were inducted in such specialties and there was acute shortage of anesthetics in the hospital.

New building: Provincial Minister for Specialised Healthcare and Medical Education Khawaja Salman Rafique inaugurated the extension of gyne block at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital on Wednesday.

Kh Salman Rafique appreciated the new administration of the hospital for completing the extension of the gyne block and making it functional. The new block consists of 40-beds gyne wards, postnatal ward, CTG/ultrasound room, induction room, two labour rooms, nursery, minor procedures theatrs, sterilisation room and offices of doctors and nurses. Fatima Jinnah Medical University Vice-Chancellor Prof Khalid Masood Gondal said the gyne block had been constructed on 6,500 square feet at a cost of Rs 42.62 million as part of upgrade plan of the hospital.
