‘Trump’s decision may sabotage peace’

LAHORE: President PPP central Punjab Qamar Zaman Kaira has said US President Donald Trump’s decision to recognise Jerusalem as Israel’s capital may sabotage global peace.

Talking to media after chairing a meeting of Punjab PPP executive, Qamar Zaman Kaira said the US president should mend his ways and withdraw his decision. The PPP leader, while condemning the Punjab government over the treatment being meted out with farmers, said for the last three years, the growers had been on roads for their rights. He criticised mill mafia for not buying sugarcane as per the price fixed by the government.

The PPP leader demanded an appointment of a new finance minister and said the country exports had witnessed a drastic fall whereas the government was protecting dollar and the currency of Pakistan was losing value.

Voicing concern over Model Town incident, he said: “Nearly 100 people were fired bullets in the incident and now when the PPP leadership had held a meeting with Dr Tahirul Qadri, the PML-N camp had turned furious against us.” Other than the sit-in, Kaira said the PPP had no difference of opinion with Qadri, adding the PPP extended support to PAT over its demand concerning resignation of the Punjab chief minister. To a question, he said the PPP wouldn’t let anyone derail the polls.

industry: Special Adviser to Chief Minister Rana Muhammad Arshad has said that economic development is the foremost agenda of the present government. He stated this while addressing the International Insurance Conference here on Wednesday.

Rana Muhammad Arshad said it was quite unfortunate that Pakistan lagged far behind at the regional and international levels as far as insurance penetration was concerned. He said the Punjab government had started various initiatives to help insurance industry grow. "I assure the insurance industry that Punjab government will work closely with insurance sector in development of human resource for the insurance sector as well as help increase insurance penetration in the province."The representatives of different insurance companies highlighted the importance of increasing insurance penetration in Pakistan's insurance sector.

e-library: The Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) conducted written tests and on the spot interviews to hire support staff for e-Library. The e-Library project is under the sponsorship of Youth Affairs, Sports, Archeology and Tourism (YASAT) Department.

Information Technology University (ITU) founding VC Dr Umar Saif, PITB Chairman and Adviser to the CM instructed the staff concerned to equip the library with all modern digital facilities.
