Polio immunisation campaign being launched in Islamabad

Islamabad: Mayor of Islamabad and Chairman of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) Sheikh Anser Aziz has said that by increasing the number of polio female workers, desired results can be achieved for the Polio Immunisation Campaign being launched from December 18 to 24, with the collaboration of World Health Organisation (WHO) and other partner organisation.

Shiekh Anser Aziz said this while chairing a meeting of Islamabad/Rawalpindi Coordination Committee for Polio Virus Interruption. The meeting was attended by Chief Officer, MCI Asad Mehboob Kiyani, Deputy Commissioner Rawalpindi Talat Mehmood Gondal, Officers of ICT, Director General Admin, CDA Nadeem Akbar Malik, Director General Health Services Dr. Hasan Urooj and officers of other formations.

Mayor of Islamabad said that purpose of this committee is complete eradication of polio from the twin cities particularly to launch effective campaign in the high risk areas adjacent to Islamabad and Rawalpindi so that this menace could be eliminated completely from the twin cities. Mayor of Islamabad and Chairman, CDA, Shiekh Anser Aziz further said that MCI will depute 387 workers instead of 280 workers.

During the upcoming campaign number of female polio workers has also been increased to achieve desired results. Mayor further said that 243 posts of polio work force have also been approved which will permanently resolve issue of human resource shortage for the polio campaign.

He further said that during the upcoming polio campaign elected representatives would be engaged while elected representatives have been directed to ensure that every child of upto 5 years age in their respective constituency must be administered polio drops.
